I love vistaprint.com. You can sign up to get their emails and they will offer lots of "free" products that you just have to pay shipping on. I usually end up paying a little to get envelopes and to have blank backsides on the business cards. BUT I use these all the time. They are easy to tape to a package or punch a hole in the corner and attach to a gift bag. </div>

The first thing that wears out is always the knees! </div>

I don't like the look of the iron on patches that go on the outside of the pants.....so, this is my solution.</div>

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My kids and I needed a way to keep track of their chores. This is a simple solution. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1- Print out a list of the chores on colored papers. Make sure you leave space in between the lines because </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> the finished sticks are 3/4 inch wide.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2- Spray paint Jumbo Craft Sticks (found at any craft store).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3- Cut the papers so they are slightly smaller than the sticks. You can do this with scissors or I used a </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> paper cuter to cut the chores into strips. Then I only had to use scissors to cut the round edges. If you </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> are careful you can stack the papers and cut four rounded edges at once.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4- Use Mod Podge to glue one chore to each stick. When dry seal the top of the paper with Mod Podge.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I found some 1/2 cups made for locker organization that have magnets on the flat side. Each week, I put the kids chores in their cups. They actually ask me when I will give them new chore sticks. We will see how long that lasts!</div>Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-4286396990055631322011-11-03T16:13:00.000-07:002011-11-03T16:13:36.153-07:00Pirate Flag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtd2N8p5Heufdp9T4zsGX7oyJIgismm4xAoiqwIgBS9AWWh9fQIP5xOvlkx_71J_nOX668DsUHWfeEIEjBZJPv9l8ravHwRycIgaq9KBJUZG4pwIB52dLAs1GZy0m10V0Gz__Hl7Lx8ts/s1600/pirate+flag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtd2N8p5Heufdp9T4zsGX7oyJIgismm4xAoiqwIgBS9AWWh9fQIP5xOvlkx_71J_nOX668DsUHWfeEIEjBZJPv9l8ravHwRycIgaq9KBJUZG4pwIB52dLAs1GZy0m10V0Gz__Hl7Lx8ts/s400/pirate+flag.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This flag is serving a double purpose: a halloween decoration, and my sons pirate party.</div><br />
I purchased two yards of black broadcloth and 1/2 yard of grey.<br />
<br />
Fold the black fabric in half and sew the 2 raw cut edges together. Turn and iron flat.<br />
<br />
I drew the skull and cross bones (using Disney's "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" as a reference). Trace your design onto the paper side of Heat n Bond*** fitting the pieces to take up as little space as possible. This will save you on heat n Bond and your grey fabric. <br />
<br />
Iron onto the grey fabric following the directions that come with the Heat n Bond.<br />
Cut out your design. <br />
Remove the paper from the back. <br />
Position the pieces onto your flag and iron.<br />
<br />
<br />
***Heat n Bond is like a sheet of glue lightly attached to paper that is activated by heat from an iron. You can purchase it at any fabric store. There are other brands but I like the performance of this product especially when you are not sewing around the applique.Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-1194131877220700902011-10-26T17:01:00.000-07:002011-10-26T17:01:22.582-07:00Witches Potion Books<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy4NcwbG_RxxI3PUxDNKPWnJNEZSJ8s2ohaxsWOtW0t40Lk6Un5j2P4B-oBAkFBinU8sW36GeNCTW_e2PZ8FAzrc1UEjbVOX2kUHWjZKXtId8RKikmEl87_NUNSxUV_-d1Ur-YrHy6qp8/s1600/Hbooks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy4NcwbG_RxxI3PUxDNKPWnJNEZSJ8s2ohaxsWOtW0t40Lk6Un5j2P4B-oBAkFBinU8sW36GeNCTW_e2PZ8FAzrc1UEjbVOX2kUHWjZKXtId8RKikmEl87_NUNSxUV_-d1Ur-YrHy6qp8/s640/Hbooks.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I purchased books from a second hand store. Look for books that have a fabric covering to the outside.<br />
Take sandpaper and sand off the lettering on the spine. <br />
<br />
If you can't get it all off try<br />
-painting the spine like I did with the black one <br />
-using twine or ribbon to cover it (purple)<br />
<br />
Get creative. Call your books Potions, Brews, Curses, Spells, Poisons, etc.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Decorate using different methods.</div><br />
-I put stickers on the purple book to spell out Curses. With silver paint I stippled over the top, let the<br />
paint dry, removed the stickers.<br />
<br />
-Use stamps<br />
<br />
-Draw your lettering or design with a glue pen (can be found in scrap booking supplies) and sprinkle <br />
glitter over the top of the glue.<br />
<br />
-Take a pair of scissors and scrape the cover so it looks like fingernails clawing the bookBreanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-72105748137106976622011-10-26T16:53:00.000-07:002011-10-26T16:53:37.829-07:00Spooky Curtains<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCpbdf1H9Z2YtbzPHuVDrSkvUh-lJeepSAtm3V8PJob6SFS954fq24c-g_kBoRfkB1RlB3FZWKY3cgLax1WsrXNUqYwHRjrkvkkn7u-8i6fCPYv5XAEi_Bjg_Lklm97B8rJ8kiOhk_wng/s1600/halloween+curtain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCpbdf1H9Z2YtbzPHuVDrSkvUh-lJeepSAtm3V8PJob6SFS954fq24c-g_kBoRfkB1RlB3FZWKY3cgLax1WsrXNUqYwHRjrkvkkn7u-8i6fCPYv5XAEi_Bjg_Lklm97B8rJ8kiOhk_wng/s640/halloween+curtain.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

This is one of my favorite tips for deciding which clothes you should get rid of. Every year at the same time turn every hanger the wrong way (with the hanger hook facing you) on the bar in your closet. When you wear something hang it up the normal way (with the hook away from you). This allows you to see what you have worn or not. After a designated amount of time, anything on a hanger still facing the wrong way is what should go. If you don't wear it, donated to someone who will.<br />
<br />
They say most people wear 20% of there closet 80% of the time. I find that I wear a larger portion of my closet because I can instantly see what I have not worn. Why have them if you don't wear them?Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-74588901725519145002011-09-20T16:18:00.000-07:002011-09-20T16:18:40.013-07:00Pillows<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGRv2jCvUtxnNIPLx9WcEzG4EamUdFBP2LQ5wOCvcB6SIUpOC-1q-hXzc52Nw4AsrBtAYe8r2trrHmuuzq_F4RubIPeTIivlJHQocAANkmE5S3fKAtAXnLTC3JKEs433F3r9UsIddIz4/s1600/DSC02455.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGRv2jCvUtxnNIPLx9WcEzG4EamUdFBP2LQ5wOCvcB6SIUpOC-1q-hXzc52Nw4AsrBtAYe8r2trrHmuuzq_F4RubIPeTIivlJHQocAANkmE5S3fKAtAXnLTC3JKEs433F3r9UsIddIz4/s320/DSC02455.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<span id="goog_2049497498"></span><span id="goog_2049497499"></span>I had something very specific in mind when trying to find pillows for my zebra chairs. Because of the unique size I knew I was going to have to make them. I found a pillow for $7.00 at Ross that was the right color. I essentially just cut the pillow in half, sewed the open ends shut creating 2 pillows, then re-stuffed.Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-5999113534433448252011-09-20T09:44:00.000-07:002011-09-20T09:55:02.740-07:00Misc Projects<div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Before you sew on the flowers pin them on and make sure they are where you want them. I switched the flowers up a bit on mine bc it just looked better. Plus you don't want a flower right on your...you know!<br />

That is why this is under "organize". I came up with this solution using pictures in the 1/2 bath downstairs. We will display 1 picture from each trip we take that really captures where we were.<br />
<br />
<br />
I could have built this a frame at a time but I was afraid it wouldn't look as intentional as I wanted it to.<br />
After a few trips to the thrift store to collect all of the frames, I painted them all with the same spray paint. <br />
<br />
Trace all of your frames on paper and mark where the nail should go with a dot on the paper. Label the paper and back of the frame so you know which frame goes with which paper. <br />
<br />
Cut the traced frames out and tape the papers up on the wall until you get them where you want them. Pay attention to anything that may hit the frames like a doorknob.<br />
<br />
Put a nail through the mark you made for the nail on the paper. Remove the paper and hang the frame.<br />
<br />
Use a combination of black and white & colored photos for interest. Fill any picture-less frame with patterned paper or images. I used vintage suitcases in 50% transparency so they wouldn't draw too much attention away from the trip pictures.<br />
<br />
(I have this thing against pictures of people in the bathroom- I feel like "someone's watching you"! But if their back is turned I am OK with it.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsi7iY8yI5bR8rlKMJ7XIhFrBghZ8lB3npoWEDfsUMaMhsRQOfjr8CQEVYm68ZF9A_6WyDzoFSXS2QnvKMZgfMIUuUVfbWCEoF6hCQuZKQaiHQ-cc6H9MtJcAxUWLgJZJ9j-yMPHMA4YU/s1600/DSC02443.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsi7iY8yI5bR8rlKMJ7XIhFrBghZ8lB3npoWEDfsUMaMhsRQOfjr8CQEVYm68ZF9A_6WyDzoFSXS2QnvKMZgfMIUuUVfbWCEoF6hCQuZKQaiHQ-cc6H9MtJcAxUWLgJZJ9j-yMPHMA4YU/s320/DSC02443.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On the other wall I hung this shadow box. I call that distressed! Remove the framing points (the metal tabs that hold the picture in). Paint the frames with spray paint and rough them up a little with sand paper. Don't go overboard- think about where the wear would actually happen naturally.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilcbB0eQ16xK1FGu-tuO8UvkrEiPQ_tPWWEfG5U6O8Ua5JlbB22tNBCfNqnmpaPtQpf1FVePnnOqyqrgmiJDZ6bSczzCOJU3ksGX70ddQuAPWlfSh_3CTsjLFayWgMklRWEQ-VMcbQPd4/s1600/DSC02410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilcbB0eQ16xK1FGu-tuO8UvkrEiPQ_tPWWEfG5U6O8Ua5JlbB22tNBCfNqnmpaPtQpf1FVePnnOqyqrgmiJDZ6bSczzCOJU3ksGX70ddQuAPWlfSh_3CTsjLFayWgMklRWEQ-VMcbQPd4/s320/DSC02410.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You can use the glass that came with the frames or go to a glass shop and get a specialty glass like I did. Mine has little bubbles throughout the glass. It is cheaper to cut it yourself or you can have them cut it to the sizes you need. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Put different sizes of letters in different fonts on each piece of glass. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Use hot glue to glue the glass in place. Because it is see-through you don't want to see what is holding the glass in, hence the removal of the framing points. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hang on the wall. This is actually the only time I like when the frames are crooked!</div>Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-85314788790476033282011-03-14T12:59:00.000-07:002011-09-20T15:46:56.644-07:00A Little Magic<div style="text-align: center;">I purchased the vinyl and put it up on the wall but I thought it needed a little something extra. </div><br />

I painted the "magic" as my daughter calls it, by using a stencil. It is the Disney Princess Paint Stencil from the Home Collection. I had to do the stars in sections because I didn't want the hearts or flowers. <br />

<br />
This was a plain shirt I picked up for $1.50.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I used a white T-Shirt that we got for free at some event for the fabric to make the flowers. Jersey is an easy fabric to use because it will not fray.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKuaPtxwDC2UNBHUXdswxCYr3Uq_xINCgyt3ZPTUHUCrvWqy3br-tiq2ZgHYxyK5643no33b80AijNX3W9LYQU7Jq2a0xT_GvinuuD47JxlEhm9BMxCvjchoTcWg1qtGLvPANw9W8dcfs/s1600/DSC02818.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKuaPtxwDC2UNBHUXdswxCYr3Uq_xINCgyt3ZPTUHUCrvWqy3br-tiq2ZgHYxyK5643no33b80AijNX3W9LYQU7Jq2a0xT_GvinuuD47JxlEhm9BMxCvjchoTcWg1qtGLvPANw9W8dcfs/s400/DSC02818.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I took a three inch strip and cut a 2" slit every inch. Sew a basting stitch along the edge and gather. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Sew onto the neckline of your T-Shirt. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">For the flower on the left I took a 2" strip and tied one end in a knot. Then twist the fabric as you wind it around the knot. Secure on the backside with thread. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">For the flower on the right, cut out a 5" circle. Baste around the edge and gather. Tie the basting threads in a knot to secure. Flatten the flower so the gathers make the center of the flower. Cut 3 one inch circles and fold them in half twice. Sew these to cover up the raw edges in the center of the flower. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Sew them on your shirt.</div>Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-30732413941992633112011-03-10T17:10:00.000-08:002011-09-20T15:47:54.740-07:00Adjustable Skirt<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">I am a huge discount shopper and can't go into a store with out a quick run through the clearance section. I found this size 18 skirt at Justice for $3.00. My daughter wears a 6.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6DHkpMgRgPqJd-UR3jJXSR_-YaevMG8ETEAKXxAcCQP455aV4WnAHhZmKDQSG_P6HnMjFgJGo9iodTkjC3TqmvaBLF00vZ97txzfLIDI3fPHptrtj32pCcRDHgPEckLwjx8arvLjJlPo/s1600/DSC02824.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6DHkpMgRgPqJd-UR3jJXSR_-YaevMG8ETEAKXxAcCQP455aV4WnAHhZmKDQSG_P6HnMjFgJGo9iodTkjC3TqmvaBLF00vZ97txzfLIDI3fPHptrtj32pCcRDHgPEckLwjx8arvLjJlPo/s320/DSC02824.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I unpicked a 2 inch section of the waistband and put a button hole the width of the elastic in the inside waistband layer. Then I pulled the elastic out and sewed it together so it would fit. Thread the doubled over elastic through the button hole. Re-sew the waistband.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk1jVkieOHwmd85HWJLzmUGE0r5mQZGQhwC95chECA70Zpy40_wZaekmA2RVi64aAozKb3aXf7FTbCdalL-SjC17MqaJC2NdT6dXNCucmqThWHIZKu_jg-h8hB8h8AjQUdR20Bl9ZNRuw/s1600/DSC02776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk1jVkieOHwmd85HWJLzmUGE0r5mQZGQhwC95chECA70Zpy40_wZaekmA2RVi64aAozKb3aXf7FTbCdalL-SjC17MqaJC2NdT6dXNCucmqThWHIZKu_jg-h8hB8h8AjQUdR20Bl9ZNRuw/s320/DSC02776.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Now when she gets bigger, I can unpick the elastic and re-sew it without opening up the waistband again.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I like the option of making it bigger bc I only have 1 girl!</div>Breanna McOmberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14713216352692179384noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5642355016886602945.post-16257351203115025272011-03-10T15:17:00.000-08:002011-09-20T15:48:11.959-07:00Reusable Shopping BagsHave you ever gotten one of these not so cute but functional bags? Why not make it cute?<br />
No offense Eagle Mountain, but my husband is on city council in a neighboring city :)<br />

Tear a 1-2 inch strip of fabric off a 45 inch width fabric. The wider the bigger the flower. Run a basting stitch 1/4" from one edge. <br />
Gather, then tie off the basting stitches on each end so the ruffle will hold. Spiral the strip around and secure with a few stitches on the back.<br />
